It’s a burger…it’s a taco…it’s both! This recipe is the best of both worlds. It’s so easy and delicious, it will be a hit with the whole family.
Ingredients
- Burgers
- Oil for greasing
- 10 4.5" (12 cm) flour tortillas (street taco size)
- 1 lb. (450 g) ground beef
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) Tex-Mex Rub or Chipotle Rub
- 5 slices pepper jack or cheddar cheese
- Toppings: Lettuce, diced tomatoes, pickles
- Sauce
- ½ cup (125 mL) mayonnaise
- ¼ cup (60 mL) taco sauce
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) pickled jalapeños, minced
- 1 tsp (5 mL) Tex-Mex Rub or Chipotle Rub
- Optional: French fries
Directions
- Preheat a large griddle over medium heat and brush it with oil.
- Divide the ground beef into 10 portions. Place each portion on a tortilla and use a spatula or your hands to spread the meat to evenly cover the tortilla. Sprinkle with the rub.
- Place the burgers on the griddle, meat-side down, and cook for 3–5 minutes, or until completely cooked through. (Cook in batches, if needed.)
- Flip the smash burgers and top each with half a slice of cheese. Cook the tortilla side for 20–30 seconds, or until warmed through but not crispy. Remove the burgers from the griddle.
- Combine the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Top the smash burgers with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and a drizzle of the sauce. Serve with french fries and remaining sauce for dipping, if you’d like.
