Old Fashioned

This simple old fashioned cocktail recipe uses basic ingredients to create a delicious and surprisingly complex drink.

Ingredients

FOR ONE COCKTAIL FOR 8 COCKTAILS
  • ½ oz. (15 mL) Simple Syrup
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 2 orange peels, divided
  • 3 oz. (90 mL) bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1 cup (250 mL) ice
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • ½ cup (125 mL) Simple Syrup
  • 16 dashes angostura bitters
  • 16 orange peels, divided
  • 3 cups (750 mL) bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 8 cups (2 L) ice
  • 8 maraschino cherries
  • • Add the syrup, bitters, and 1 of the orange peels to the large cup of the Cocktail Shaker. Use the Muddler until the orange peels are just fragrant.
  • • Add the ice to the shaker and stir with the Bar Spoon.
  • • Combine the syrup, bitters, and 8 of the orange peels in a large pitcher. Use the Muddler until the orange peels are just fragrant.
  • • When ready to serve, add up to 12 oz. (350 mL) of the mixture to the large cup of the Cocktail Shaker.
  • • Add ice to the large cup and stir with the Bar Spoon.

Directions

  1. Use the Cocktail Strainer to strain into a chilled glass(s) and garnish with the remaining orange peel(s) and cherry(ies).
