Use & Care
- Hand wash only; wash prior to first use. Remove excess food with scraper. It is not recommended to use soap, detergent or an automatic dishwasher. Not dishwasher-safe.
- Stoneware can be used in conventional, convection and microwave ovens, and is freezer-safe. Stoneware is heat-resistant to 450°F (230°C). Do not use Stoneware under broiler or on direct heat source. Follow oven manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Stoneware will naturally season and develop a natural nonstick surface over time depending on the foods baked in the Stoneware.
- Aerosol nonstick spray is not recommended; it will create a sticky residue which is difficult to clean.
How to Create Baked Tortilla Shells
Because all microwaves are different and cook times may vary, each microwave will have a different cook time. Chart is a guideline and includes space to enter cook time that is ideal for microwave being used.
- Prick tortilla with fork thoroughly.
- Form tortilla into baker (no greasing needed).
- Bake as desired:
- Remove tortilla shell from baker immediately by using table knife to loosen and lift. If tortilla is pliable and not holding shape once removed from baker, continue to microwave in 15 second intervals or oven bake for an extra minute until desired crispness is reached.
- Cool tortilla on a cooling rack. As tortilla cools, it will harden to a crisp. Note: it is normal for the underside to be slightly wet. This will crisp up during cooling.
Tortilla Bowl Maker Usage Tips- For a savory tortilla bowl, spray or lightly brush tortilla with canola oil. Sprinkle with your favorite taco seasoning. For a sweet version, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- Line interior of baker with refrigerated pie crust. Follow package instructions for onecrust pie. Allow crust to cool completely. Gently remove. Fill with a dessert dip that can be shared.
- Perfect for making cheese or gelatin molds. Simply line the interior of the bowl with plastic wrap, fill and then place in refrigerator to chill.
General Stoneware Usage Tips
- Prevent breakage from thermal shock by avoiding extreme temperature changes.
- Do not preheat stone.
- Do not place dense, frozen food items (chicken breasts, pot pies, roasts or chops) on Stoneware. Always thaw dense, frozen food in refrigerator prior to baking.
- Foods refrigerated in Stoneware may be placed directly in a preheated oven.
- Do not place another tortilla baker or any other pan or rack on top of Stoneware while baking.
Safeguards
- Hot Stoneware can cause burns if handled improperly. Always use a heat-resistant oven mitt or pad when handling hot Stoneware or placing on surfaces.
- Stoneware may scratch surfaces. Protect surfaces by using a protective barrier between Stoneware and surface.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes. Always allow Stoneware to cool to room temperature prior to adding liquid or cleaning. Do not use chipped or damaged Stoneware.
- Stoneware can break if bumped or dropped. If this occurs, use caution as broken pieces can be sharp and could cause injury.
