The hanlde will arrive with a gray connector inserted into it. To remove this piece from the handle, push the small inset button inward with your thumb. While holding in the small inset button, slide the large button toward you. These are the same motions you would use if the handle was attached to the pan, and will release the gray piece from the rest of the handle.
